چکیده

The high cost of animal protein sources has made it necessary to evaluate the use alternative plant especially unconventional proteins. Leucaena leucocephala (white lead tree) is a leguminous plant, leaves which have potential being used as source. leaf been analysed crude value 15.2-34.3%. were collected from forage section College Agriculture and Animal Sciences (CAAS) Mando, Kaduna. first group was divided into three sun-dried for 24 hours, 48 hours 72 respectively. second further subgroups soaked in water then sun-dried. two groups ground powder. effects sun-drying soaking on amino acid composition L. investigated. analysis done by ion-exchange chromatography (IEC) using Technicon Sequential Multisample Amino Acid Analyser (TSM) Instruments Corporation, New York. essential acids detected arginine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine valine. Alanine, cysteine, tyrosine, aspartic acid, glutamic glycine, serine proline non-essential detected. Sun-drying led significant (P≤0.05) losses concentration all samples (Sundried - SD1, Sundried SD2, SD3, – SW1, SW2, SW3) when compared with raw (SU). Soaking caused higher reduction levels test meals at P≤0.05. scores revealed that lysine methionine limiting relative WHO/FAO/UNU standard preschool aged children. Therefore, processed should be supplemented other feed ingredients rich these production.

Evaluation of Phytochemicals and Quantification of Phenol, Flavonoids and Tannins of Pods of Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) De Wit

The present study was carried out to evaluate phytochemicals of pods of Leucaena leucocephala. The phytochemical analysis was performed using 50% ethanolic extracts of pods powder of Leucaena leucocephala. Quantitative analysis of phytochemicals like phenols, flavonoids and tannins was done. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannins, saponins, carbo...

Spacing effects on relative growth rates of height , diameter and biomass production of Leucaena leucocephala ( Lam . ) de Wit . before and after pruning

Seedlings of Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit. were planted in the field at The Agricultural Experiments Station of the college of Agriculture, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in October 1995. Spacing between rows or trees within row was either 0.70 or 1.40 or 2.10 meter. The trees were pruned after two years of planting. Two trees from each plot were felled at time of pruning and...

Cloning, expression, and characterization of an antifungal chitinase from Leucaena leucocephala de Wit.

Chitinase cDNAs from Leucaena leucocephala seedlings were cloned by PCR amplification with degenerate primers based on conserved class I chitinase sequences and cDNA library screening. Two closely related chitinase cDNAs were sequenced and inferred to encode precursor proteins of 323 (KB1) and 326 (KB2) amino acids. Expression of the KB2 chitinase from a pET32a plasmid in Origami (DE3) Escheric...

Expression of Leucaena Leucocephala de Wit Chitinase in Transgenic Koshihikari Rice

The cDNA encoding the 326 amino acids of a Class I basic chitinase gene from Leucaena leucocephala de Wit (KB3, Genbank accession: AAM49597) was cloned under the control of CaMV35S promoter in pCAMBIA 1300 and transferred to Koshihikari. Calli of Koshihikari rice was transformed with agrobacterium with this construct expressing the chitinase and βglucouronidase (GUS). The frequencies of calli 9...

Leaf-closing substance in Leucaena leucocephala.

Potassium (2R,3R)-2,3,4-trihydroxy-2-methylbutanoate (1) was identified as a leaf-closing substance in the nyctinastic plant, Leucaena leucocephala. Compound 1 showed strong leaf-closing activity toward L. leucocephala and was not effective against other nyctinastic plants. The potassium ion was indispensable for the bioactivity of 1. Compound 1 gradually lost its bioactivity because of the exc...
